This interview with Jaspal Singh Jagraon was published on 10 April 2023. Who has been living in Canada with his family for the last 22 years and now has returned back to Punjab. He left his Grade 1 job and went abroad and ran a Punjabi newspaper there too and now he is thinking of coming to Punjab permanently with his family but is in a dilemma. Jaspal Singh said that the background of migration of Punjabis is when the Sikh Punjabi soldiers were honored by Queen Victoria in London during the victory of World War II. After which a group of them went on a tour to North America and those Punjabis liked that place and were the first Punjabis who went and settled there. But they also had to face such a dilemma. He gave an example of capitalists like Rothschild and the migration of Punjabis 150 years ago. He said that the history of the world is the history of migration because if migration is removed from history, nothing is left and this process never stops. Jaspal Singh said that a person should not forget his background while going to any new place. He said that this issue is also related to the economy because the economy forces migration. He said that students who migrate to Canada face many challenges in the job market and start from zero. He told the average annual income of Punjabis, how much the old Punjabis earn and how much the students earn and how they spend. He explained all this phenomenon very well. He explained what is the difference between the earlier situations and today’s situations. Along with this, he explained how difficult or dangerous it is for a student to go abroad immediately after completing the 12th. Along with this, he also told that how much money was needed to buy a house in Canada in the early days, whereas nowadays people can pay loans or house installments only with difficulty. Apart from this, he also spoke openly about the current situation in Canada, law and order, corruption and gangster culture. He said that before going to any country, a person or a student should research about the country or about the jobs.
